Even if you have an escort targeted (so that you can fire without fear of hitting someone who'll hate you for it), you're still restricted in your motion in that the asteroid must always be between you and your escort (or other target). The Blaster Turrets aren't too good for mining because being turreted weapons, they will only fire while you have someone targeted. The reason for getting the Medium Blaster over the Light Blaster is that the latter has a significant accuracy problem (besides the fact that the Medium Blaster will destroy asteroids faster) - even if you're sitting within about two centimeters of an asteroid, at least as many shots from a Light Blaster will miss as will hit. There's no fixed Heavy Blaster because (apparently) they're too slow to hit anything unless they're turreted. You can buy Blasters pretty much anywhere, although for asteroid mining, you're better off sticking with the fixed Blasters, and specifically the Medium Blaster.

Oh, and you can only get the Heavy and Quad Light Blaster Turrets when doing the Fed string (although the Unrelenting in the Pirate string comes with a pair of them). Naturally enough, the larger the blaster, the more damage it does (and the faster it destroys asteroids). Blasters come in six flavours - Medium and Light Blasters, and Heavy, Medium, Light and Quad Light Blaster Turrets. This is the Blaster - it's pretty much your basic weapon on all the civilian, Pirate and Federation ships. The Asteroid Miner comes with two Mining Lasers already installed - it's the only ship which has any as part of its standard complement.īack to Fixed, Swivel and Turreted Weapons Their range is tiny, and their damage is low - which probably means it's a good thing you're never going to use them for anything other than mining (right?). Each of these will take up one of your gun slots, which is why I've included them in this sub (sub-sub?) section, but they count as a secondary weapon (so don't be surprised when you hit the space bar and nothing happens). It has a ten times multiplier against asteroids, and it's also light and cheap, so it's suitable for even the smallest ship - just don't expect to win any firefights with it.

I won't say much here, since I've already pretty much covered the Mining Laser in the introduction, but here's the weapon in EV Nova which is specifically designed for mining asteroids, both in character and out. I've grouped the guns and turrets together because all of the turrets (I think) are just turreted versions of the gun weapons.

These are all the weapons which take up either a gun or a turret slot when you install them on your ship, unless they are a beam type weapon. Belthazar's Guide to Asteroid Mining 5.2.1 Fixed, Swivel and Turreted Weapons
